Glen Cannich

Glen Cannich is a wild and wonderful Highland Glen accessed by road from the village of Cannich towards the south-western end of the beautiful Strathglass. After a steep climb through native woodland the road eventually drops to the foot of the glen and follows the River Cannich up stream through several small lochs to the hydro electric dam at the foot of the vast Loch Mullardoch.

The effects of over grazing and forest degredation can be felt more acutely in Glen Cannich than its neighbour Glen Affric but this does not in any way detract from its beauty or impact. Fewer trees coupled with the road being right at the base of the glen really give you the impression of being at the centre of a glacial phenomenon with rugged mountains rising all around you.

Glen Cannich offers superb walking opportunities with the possibility for many days walking and wild camping taking in the mountains of both Glen Affric and Glen Cannich. To the north of Glen Cannich is Strathglass’s third majestic glen, Glen Strathfarrar which offers further walking prospects. There are also opportunities for stalking, fishing and mountain biking.

Glen Cannich is renowned for its large numbers of Red deer grazing on its lower slopes throughout most of the year. There are many opportunities for visitors to see this spectacle from the comfort of their vehicles along with other important wildlife and bird species.
